In the equipment industry, the equipment on the drill pipe usually needs to be explored thousands of meters deep into the ocean. In order to meet the power output of the drill pipe, a high voltage of at least 2500V must be used to achieve long-distance transmission. Similar to the slip rings used on oil drilling platforms, as well as the slip rings used in the control center of deep-sea exploration robots on oil and gas exploration ships, in order to ensure power supply for underwater robots that penetrate several kilometers deep into the seabed, half of them have also increased the rated working voltage of the slip rings to 2500V.

Whether it is the slip ring of deep-sea exploration robots or the slip ring on the drill pipe of oil drilling platforms, both belong to high-voltage slip rings and use carbon brushes and copper rings for contact; But the required rated current is very small, for example, the slip ring on the drilling rig drill pipe only has a current of 120A; The slip ring of the underwater exploration robot has a current path of about 20A per circuit. The slip ring of the pod type electric thruster is a slip ring with relatively high voltage and high current in the oil and gas exploration industry equipment.

Pod type electric thruster, also known as rudder propeller, is commonly used on luxury cruise ships, scientific research vessels, oil drilling platforms, and other ship platforms. Why is it called pod type thruster slip ring? Because this type of propeller directly uses an electric motor to propel the spiral forward, the motor and propeller are suspended and installed at the stern of the ship together; And the reason why it is also called a rudder propeller is related to the ability of the slip ring to provide 360 ° wireless rotation.

The slip ring is installed on top of the pod type electric thruster. To meet the high-power requirements of the thruster, the rated current of the slip ring of the pod type electric thruster usually reaches several thousand amperes. For example, the slip ring of the 3MW pod type electric thruster developed by JINPAT has a designed rated current of 4000A.
